Wonderful Burmese Buddhist Devote carved from a large solid stone of Alabaster. Collected in Myanmar Kayin State in 2004. This statue dates to early 20th century being of the Mandalay Period 1853-1948 Burma. Beautifully rendered Buddhist monk in a kneeling position with both hands held together in the Anjali mudra also known as Namaste position which is a position of greeting, expressing gratitude, devotion, prayer and respect. Anjali mudra crosses cultures and language barriers, uniting humans around the world with this gesture of respect. A divine sculpture with refined features some lacquering and gilded with real gold leaf. This is a fairly large and heavy piece weighing just under 170lbs and 27.5 inches tall by itself with the black wood stand 37.5 inches tall. This statue can be placed outside or inside.
If outside the statue will weather. A serene statue offering greetings to all. In very good condition The Burmese word “Pantamault” refers to the art of sculpting with stone primarily through carving, chiseling and breaking the stone. Common images including The Buddha and various images associated with Buddhism, animals such as elephants and deer and mythical creatures.
