Antique Bogu Hanging shelf.  This specific style of wall-mounted construction is traditionally called a Hanging Chosham or a Shrine Niche Shelf. Historically used as an "antique curiosity shelf," its unique asymmetric compartments and integrated small drawers are designed to display highly valued items.
An exceptional early-to-mid 20th-century Tibetan Buddhist wall-mounted altar shelf, traditionally known as a Chosham (or Chosum). This hanging shrine originates from the Himalayan border region, likely crafted within the historic Amdo cultural sphere (modern-day Gansu borderland). It is built entirely from solid native softwood using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery. The piece features a striking multi-tiered architectural layout designed specifically to house sacred statues, ritual texts, and daily offerings. The upper registers boast hand-carved, scalloped cloud-motif valances with painted gold scrollwork accents. The central compartment features double openwork lattice doors adorned with geometric star medallions, flanked by two lower storage utility drawers with original iron drop-ring pulls. A wide, continuous lower open shelf provides ample space for traditional water offering bowls (yönchap) or incense burners.Finished in a heavily patinated, deep red polychrome lacquer with rich, aged dark wood backing panels, this authentic piece beautifully blends spiritual history with functional, striking wall art.I  Tibetan / Himalayan Buddhist Art, Hanging Altar Shelf / Shrine Cabinet Period: Early 20th Century (circa 1920s–1940s) Materials: Polychrome lacquered softwood, iron hardware, mineral pigments.  In very good original condition.
