Antique Thai Architectural Carved Wai Lintel Panel

Antique Thai Architectural Carved Wai (welcoming) Panel, Thai teak wood lintel early 20th century hand carved solid teak wood panel.  Salvaged from a commuanl gathering hall building in Northen Thailand.  In Thai culture, this architectural panel acts as a permanent, visual invitation of hospitality, safety, and blessing to anyone who enters. It is a Welcoming Symbol. The central figure is a Thepanom (a celestial guardian angel). Because its hands are sculpted in the permanent Wai posture, the panel is literally performing a perpetual, silent greeting of "Sawasdee" to your guests. Historically, panels like this were mounted directly above doors and entryways. Placing a guardian figure at the primary architectural threshold was meant to signal that the home is a safe, peaceful space where guests are received with honor.  This is the process for creatiing intertioanl good energy.  In Thai Buddhist tradition, welcoming symbols like this are meant to filter out negative energies at the door, ensuring that only harmony, prosperity, and good fortune enter the living space.
