Antique Chinese Tea Pot Caddy

Antique Chinese Tea Pot Caddy, 19th Century Chinese Tea Pot Caddy.  A kettle filled with tea would be placed inside of the Tea caddy with the spout protruding from the opening and this Tea caddy would be used to present the serve the tea.  A tea caddy such as this would be for very special guests and Tea ceremony.   This example is a tapered octagon shape larger at the top smaller to bottom.  Precision sculpted pieces of wood assembled to create a container.  Wonderfully carved details to the front three panels tops of foliate scrolled vines, with lower carvings of scholars.  The two handles on the top have carved bats the symbols of insight, good luck, and fortune with a harmony crest to the middle of the sliding lock for the top.  A carved wooden sliding locking mechanism connects to each handle securing the lid so the tea can be served keeping the tea kettle secure inside the Tea Caddy.  A wonderful example in very good working condition.
