18th century spectacular Chinese raised lacquer cabinet. This cabinet has a wonderful patina that only comes from time and old style craftsmanship lacquer application. A paper or cloth covering is placed over gesso made from wood ash and lacquer mixed with earthen clay to add dimension and depth to the images. The paint work and many coats of lacquer complete the process. Hardware was replaced in the late 20th century. Bi-an Dragons carved into the lower apron to the bottom left and right of the cabinet. These symbolize power, strength and success. A beautiful special Chinese Antique cabinet that is an art piece in any setting. Please note that this type of cabinet is not easily found in China today. circa 1700.Cabinet has a very large false bottom under shelf storage.
